Blogging Thoughts

Posted by alicia on Feb 18, 2009 in Reading & Writing |

Last night I went to Refresh Richmond’s monthly meeting. This month they gathered a panel of local professional bloggers. Telling us their stories, we got an pretty good review of the start, growth and success of This Young House, Mac Rumors, and, one of my favorite blogs, Tobacco Avenue.

The discussion got me thinking about my blog, and just blogging in general. If you’ve got a minute, would you mind answering a couple questions about your blogging habits?

What are some of your favorite blogs?

Do you read your favorite blogs for information, inspiration or entertainment?

Do you blog? Why?

Like what you read? Bookmark it or share it with others.

1. My favorite blogs are the ones that my friends write… I like to see what makes my friends tick. In general, I also like theological blogs that create good conversation.

2. All the above.

3. Because daniel told me i should blog. I now blog mostly about the books i read. I mainly do this so that it makes me engage with the books that i am reading.

1 – I read a lot of blogs, sometimes skimming, sometimes diving deep. Repeat business (RSS) is usually driven by a philosophy on business, communication, and/or social media that sparks my own creativity and imagination. Favorites: Gary V’s Wine Library blog/v-log, David Armano’s Logic + Emotion, Jeff Kelley’s Tobacco Avenue, Mary Foley & Susie Galvez’s Girlfriend, We Gotta Talk.

2 – see above!

3 – My blog, Mighty Mouth Storytelling Theory 101, is a collection of (I hope) insights on the power of story in business, along with some observations of successful or failed communication.

I pretty much exclusively read blogs for humor. I read them when people I follow on twitter link them, sometimes. Twitter is my blog, because its simplicity and shortness enables me to actually complete a thought. Previously when I used to blog, I would write half of a staggeringly long post and never finish it.
