Marriage & Christmas Gifts

Posted by alicia on Dec 22, 2007 in Uncategorized |

After a few conversations about what to get each other for Christmas this year, Dan & I decided not to exchange gifts at all. In years past we’ve try to be somewhat creative with our gift-giving. One year we set a limit of $30. Other years we’ve exchanged poetry books and gifts to inspire creativity. Last year we promised new tattoos to each other. But this year it seems more frustrating to come up with gift idea than it is worth. Anyone else not exchanging gifts with their spouse this year?

For years John and I didn’t exchange gifts, just exchanged cards…until “someone” suggested we make all our gifts, then the pressure was on once again. Why do we do this to ourselves?

Sarah and I haven’t exchanged gifts for years. It’s liberating. The first year we were married we had $10 to spend. I bought lottery tickets. Didn’t pan out.

My wife and I tell eachother what we want. I want Sirius Radio. She wants a new Bible and fuzzy socks.

This way we get what we want. We’re practical people, not romantic.

I’m kind of late to this posting but just wanted to comment. My wife and I have not exchanged gifts for xmas for a while now, especially after having a kid and wanting to spend the money for gifts for him. We like it because we have so many other people that we “MUST” buy gifts for.
