Hokie Spirit Fund

Posted by alicia on Sep 11, 2007 in Life |

Here is some information my family learned about the Hokie Spirit Fund this week:

- To receive any support from the HSF, the families of deceased victims have to fill out an application and submit it by Friday.

- On this application all living parents of the deceased must agree to how the fund will be given to the family.

- Also, on this application both signatures of the living parents are required.

- This also includes “fathers” who left their family over 22 years ago, has had little to no contact with his children, and owes about $100,000 in back child support.

What an idiotically quaint requirement. It obviously reflects the haste with which the document was probably written.

I’m sure the author did not mean to exclude any families for reasons beyond their control….but still. I am sure it stings.

Hopefully they will revise to something that is a bit more modern – and soon.

hmm, well if you want to smile I’d suggest reading the above commenter’s, A’Dell, “about” link. She is a very funny witty girl she is…I wish she were closer. I’d totally make her and her husband go get drinks with me and make her tell me stories. I’m sure it’d be quite the delight. You guys could come along as well…I think you guys are funny too!

Wait, I don’t think you, Dan and I have gone out for drinks yet…we should remedy that soon.

Back to you…hope things are turning toward your favor.

Thanks guys.

If you are interested to know what’s going on, my dad is trying to get any $ he can from Jarrett’s death. We are doing all things possible to stop that from happening. My mom found a lawyer to help her become executor of Jarrett’s estate, “remind” my dad (and his lawyer) of the back child support, and also prepare to go to Probate court if necessary. It’s a lot of added work and stress, especially for my mom, but after talking to a few lawyers we feel much better about the situation.
