A Creative Hostess
While at BlogHer I spotted “The Blogging Church” and mentioned it to Pastor Brent of the Well. Pastor Brent read the book in only a few days and then lent it to me. I’m only through the first couple of chapters, but I came across a couple of quotes that speak to heart of why I enjoy blogging.
“Blogging is about connecting communities through conversation.”
“Blogging is simply online hospitality – opening your door, inviting people inside, and sharing stories.”
For several months I’ve been struggling with my personal blog because I feel like I’ve lost the voice that was evolving here, but I’ve been excited to see a stronger community/connection develop. BlogHer inspired me to search again for that voice and become a creative hostess. I’m thrashing out ideas on how to make that happen as I realize how easily technology & social networking are mixing with my other interests.
Thinking about blogging as hospitality may be the jump start I need.
uh oh…all i used to do on my old blog was vent about stupid people and their views. not very hospitable, but it definitely offended a lot of people and got a bunch of comments. I think that was my goal…I disheart stupid people.
CJ, sometimes ranting is great and no shame in it. Anything to get people conversing is ok with me! Keep it up! Great post, Alicia!
I think that blogs are a good place for ranting. Like Adele said, it will get conversation going.
Well I just did it to kind of tick people off and make themselves look like idiots by writing obnoxious comments. Though I did love the rare occasion when read someone rethinking their views when they realize I am always right…
CJ, you are always right? WOW!!!! COOL!!!!!! i must meet you one day!!!
um, you can meet him on aug. 26th at my house.
yes, yes…it can be quite a chore sometimes too. Oh and right! I guess I’ll have to make it an early saturday then.
